Home Fires Occur More During the Winter Months
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a great resource to learn about fire safety for your home or business. This nonprofit organization’s mission is to help save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge, and passion. SERVPRO® of Mission Valley East wants all Mission Valley residents and commercial business owners to have a safe, fire damage-free winter. We respond to many fire damage emergency calls during the winter months and offer some tips and interesting facts from the NFPA website to help you stay safe this winter season:
- December, January, and February are when half of all home heating fires occur.
- Install carbon monoxide alarms and test them at least once a month.
- Have a qualified professional clean and inspect your chimney and vents every year.
- Keep portable generators outside, away from windows, and as far away from your home as possible.
- Store cooled ashes in a tightly covered metal container and keep it outside at least 10 feet from your home and any nearby buildings.
